Response from May 9 question

On May 9, I left you with this verse to think about:
Colossians 3:16; "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom."

Then I asked this question:
Question; What's the difference between the "word of Christ" and the "Word of God?"

And finally someone decided to try and answer the question.
Donna Jean wrote:
"The Word of God = Scripture
The word of Christ = the words Christ spoke while here on earth"

Which is a pretty good guess, but little sister may I direct you to John 1:14.
How does this verse reflect on your answer?

Thought provoting.
Blessings
Pastor Brother Brian (B.Th)

I don't even have to look...

John begins...

In the beginning was the Word
and the Word was with God
and the Word WAS God...

Christ is the WORD...Which, if I had have been thinking, I would have known that...

NOW let me go look at your verse...Be right back...

John 1:14

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

So, there... Christ IS the Word...

Amendment...

But you said "the word of Christ", not " the Word"...

Now, the Word of God, we all know is Scripture. THE WORD, as we have just been reminded is Christ Himself. But The word of Christ... Wouldn't that be something different?

It says...

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another in all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to one another with gratitude in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, whether in word or in deed, do it all in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.

(OK, I had to cheat on the last little bit for the wording on Biblegateway)

Hmmm... I wonder if that changes anything??? Must dig deeper... (I know I have old sermon notes on that passage around here somewhere...)

Good question Brian...

"word" in Col, and the "word" in John, are both the same word translated from the Greek "logos", "word, spoken or written with a focus on the content of a communication; matter, thing. "The Word" is a title of Christ emphasizing his own diety and communication of who God is and what he is like.

I think that the "of" changes the meaning from THE WORD, to Christ's words...

That is what I think... I will ask other people... We will Pastor AJ...

'logos' it is the same
